Of the required class credits for any plan, at least 14 credits must be Electrical Engineering Program courses. See OneStop for a listing of such courses. All credits must be 5000 level or above, or may be 4000 level if on the approved 4000 level course list. At least 6 credits, in a related field, must be from outside the department within the Institute of Technology which includes mathematics and statistics. Requirements for a minor are established by each program but also must meet the department requirement for minor which states that all minor credits must be a regular course (midterm/final) and seminar and directed studies/special investigations classes will not be approved toward minor requirements even if it is acceptable to the minor department. Students should have the minor department sign approval of their degree program prior to asking the Department to approve their Graduate School Degree Program form.
Students will be required to work on a project, either alone or jointly with other students, present the results of their project in the form of a written report and give an in-class oral presentation of the work. The project must be an EE graduate course. This requirement can be met in three ways:
All requirements for the master's degree must be completed and the degree awarded within seven years. The seven-year period begins with the earliest coursework included on the official degree program form, including any transfer work. The graduate faculty in a specific program may set more stringent time requirements. Students who are unable to complete the degree within the seven-year limit may petition the Graduate School for an extension of up to one additional year. Extensions beyond one year are considered only in the most extraordinary circumstances. To ensure timely consideration, petitions should be filed early in the term in which the time limit expires.
